Series Statement: “Flow” Oil on canvas, 2024
I’ve always been drawn to water. It flows through us, takes up the space it needs to, calms a busy mind, brings life, destroys, renews, puts out fires and floods.
Since becoming a mother, I’ve found myself in a new relationship with water, hyper conscious of its strength and ever-present danger. But my love of water has flowed through my children and this series brings this connection to life. These blue-hued abstracted portraits in oil feel playful on the surface, mirroring the movement of water and light. Just like the figure emerging to the surface, we’re reminded to take a breath. We are water, water is us.
