"Orchid study 6"
Oil, spray paint and ink on wood pan
5"x7"
2025
Inspired by forest walks and chance encounters with rare beauty, these small studies from my studio are now available. I'm building a new collection of orchid paintings, but to get where I am with them I experimented with the imagery.
Why orchids? Well, Lady slipper orchids hold a special place within me. They are rare, flesh-like, and have a semblance of a woman's figure. They cannot be transplanted, therefore they are a reflection of their unique environment and must be enjoyed and viewed only from where they are... As a person deeply in tune with nature, I encountered these unique flowers while on walks with my children and we took the time to appreciate them and their surroundings.
I was also shared the story of the Lady Slipper orchid, stemming from an Ojibway story about a young girl who braved the snow to save her village with medicine. The flowers that grew in the girl's footprints are said to symbolize her bravery and courage.
Packaged carefully with love in my studio. Ready to hang.
Thank you for your support.
